“After two years with our chosen provider, we realised that we needed our telephone and IT systems to go up a level and to do that we needed to bring an expert team onboard.
We went to the market looking for a new provider who knew what they were doing and who would get the job done.”
CSP Coating Systems is the oldest and largest metal coatings company in New Zealand, starting operations at its Auckland facilities in 1963, before buying the South Island’s biggest galvanizing plant in 1987. Up until 2013, CSP was part of the Fletcher Building Group of companies, when it was purchased by the current owners.
Today, CSP is the most comprehensive nationwide steel coating operation in the country.
CSP does everything from blasting to zinc metal spraying, painting, hot dip galvanizing, to the application of sophisticated duplex anti-corrosion coatings, supplying some of Zealand’s most high profile construction projects with high-quality galvanizing and coating solutions.

As part of the large Fletcher Group, CSP was reliant on a central team for all its IT requirements, but once the company was under new ownership, a new technology solution had to be found.
The company has 50 employees in total between Auckland and Christchurch, with 15 of them working in the two branch offices and using IT services.
According to administration manager Susan Jones, the initial solution was simply to get a provider in place as quickly as possible – a solution that worked for the first two years.
“After two years with our chosen provider, we realised that we needed our telephone and IT systems to go up a level and to do that we needed to bring an expert team onboard,” Susan says.
“We went to the market looking for a new provider who knew what they were doing and who would get the job done.”
“Our system was antiquated and cable based, so we needed something state of the art that was easy to use, does the job we need it to and is supported by a team who respond the same day.”
CSP chose the I.T. team to provide an integrated, fully managed services solution, which was their preference as they have no internal IT staff.
The I.T. team provides hardware, networking, managed services and telephony systems for the Auckland and Christchurch branches of CSP.
Susan says she particularly likes being able to log in and put through requests for new staff members to be set up and get a response from the I.T. team helpdesk the same day. CSP have chosen to direct all their IT requests through the admin staff to reduce the number of interactions each day and Susan says that works well.
“They don’t make me feel like I am asking dumb questions – and they give me sensible answers I can understand.”
CSP consider the services the I.T. team offers to be good value for money, and particularly appreciate the fact that when they need new hardware, they are offered solutions that are fit for purpose, not the most expensive options available. Having a low level of helpdesk turnover at the IT team is also beneficial.
“We appreciate having the same people on the end of the phone to deal with – staff who know who we are and our set up.”
Susan says CSP would definitely recommend the I.T. team’s services to other New Zealand businesses. “As an independent New Zealand company, we like to do business with other NZ companies whenever we can.”
